Pune: Senior Citizen Duped Of ₹36.52 Lakh In Online Investment Scam
A 63-year-old man from Undri, Pune, has fallen victim to an online investment scam, losing a whopping ₹36.52 lakh. According to the complaint filed at Kondhwa Police Station (case no. 1266/2024), the accused, a mobile holder, cheated the senior citizen through an online application that promised high returns on stock market investments.
The incident occurred between October 5 and 21, 2024, when the senior citizen received a link to download the application, which claimed that mobile phone holders could earn good returns by investing in the stock market. The victim invested a significant amount, but the accused failed to return the principal amount, resulting in financial loss.
Police Inspector Sheikh is investigating the case, which has been registered under sections 316(5), 319(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the IT Act, as well as section 66(D). No arrests have been made yet.
