Pune News: 10 Booked in ₹1.21 Crore Stock Market Investment Scam By PoliceÂ
A 60-year-old man from Kothrud, Pune, has fallen victim to an online share trading scam, losing a whopping Rs 68 lakh between September 23 and December 12. The Kothrud Police have registered an FIR against unidentified individuals after conducting preliminary investigations.
According to the police, the victim, who runs an engineering unit in Kothrud, was lured by promises of substantial returns on investments in the share market. He clicked on a link received on a mobile messenger app, which added him to a group of investors. A person in the group claimed to be a stock market expert and trained members on trading in stocks.
The victim initially invested small amounts and received profits immediately, which is a common tactic used by fraudsters to gain confidence. He then invested more, following instructions from the fraudsters, and even made transactions through his four accounts. Interestingly, the victim’s profile showed that he had earned a profit worth lakhs, which made him unaware of the fraud.
However, when the victim tried to withdraw his money, he was not allowed, and the suspects stopped responding to him. The police have stated that this is a typical online fraud under the guise of share trading, and many people have fallen victim to such scams.
According to police records, over 200 cases of online fraud have been recorded in 2024, with people losing a total of Rs 125 crore. The police are urging citizens to be cautious and not fall prey to such scams.
