Pune, October 28, 2025: The Shapoorji Pallonji Construction Company’s Joyville housing project in Manjari-Shewalewadi has been fined ₹10 lakh by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for allegedly releasing sewage water into a natural stream.

Assistant Municipal Commissioner, PMC  Balasaheb Dhawale Patil has issued a notice to the company regarding the violation. An additional ₹15,000 fine has also been levied for dumping debris and causing nuisance in the area.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram had visited the Shewalewadi-Manjari area ten days ago to review local issues. During his inspection, he noticed a large volume of sewage water flowing through a natural stream in the vicinity. He immediately ordered action against the violators.

Following his directions, Assistant Commissioner Dhawale Patil imposed the fine on the construction company. Officials observed that the discharge of untreated sewage into the natural stream has created conditions conducive to diseases such as chikungunya, dengue, and malaria, as well as severe foul odour in the area. The company has been instructed to immediately stop the sewage discharge and pay the imposed penalty.

Local residents have long raised concerns about the project. Rahul Shewale, District Vice President of BJP, said, “The Joyville project has been under construction for the past four to five years, with work continuing day and night. Nearly 2,000 migrant workers are employed there, and many roam the village under the influence of intoxicants, causing distress to residents. The project not only releases sewage but also dumps debris at different locations. Large-scale tree cutting has also taken place. I have repeatedly complained to the municipal and police commissioners, but no strict action was taken. It is only after the commissioner’s personal intervention that this significant penal action has finally been carried out.”
