Pune, January 4, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale has directed the water supply department to take immediate action for providing piped water supply to Shewalewadi village. These directives follow a persistent follow-up by BJP Pune District General Secretary Rahul Shewale, who had earlier submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding the issue.

A meeting was held today at the PMC office with the commissioner, water supply officials, and Shewalewadi residents to discuss the matter. Key attendees included Chief Engineer Nandkishore Jagtap, Executive Engineer of the Water Supply Department Rajesh Shinde, Deputy Engineer Dattatraya Takale, BJP’s Rahul Shewale, former village sarpanch Pratima Shewale, and other prominent residents of the village.

During the meeting, Commissioner Bhosale instructed the water supply department to conduct a detailed survey of Shewalewadi, assess the requirements for a piped water system, and prepare a detailed estimate. The necessary budget for the project will be allocated after the survey, and the proposal must be submitted within eight days to ensure swift implementation. The commissioner assured that piped water supply would commence in the coming weeks.

Rahul Shewale had previously raised the issue with CM Devendra Fadnavis during the Winter Assembly Session, highlighting the difficulties faced by Shevalewadi residents. Acting on this, the Chief Minister directed PMC to address the problem urgently.

Challenges Faced by Residents:

Shevalewadi was included within PMC limits four years ago, yet the village of 25,000 people continues to struggle for clean drinking water. Currently, water is supplied through tankers, which is both unsafe and inconvenient, especially for women who must carry water over long distances. Narrow village lanes add to the risks of tanker-based supply, while incidents of water theft via tankers are also common.

Rahul Shewale emphasized that piped water supply is an urgent necessity to address these challenges and improve living conditions for residents.

“PMC Commissioner has responded positively, and we are confident that Shevalewadi will soon receive piped water. This will bring much-needed relief to residents, especially women, who have been facing significant hardships,” said Rahul Shewale, BJP Pune District General Secretary.
