A 55-year-old peon in Pune has been arrested for sexually assaulting two minors at a children’s shelter. The accused threatened the victims to stay silent. The police investigation is ongoing.

A disturbing incident took place in a children’s home in Wagholi area of ​​Pune. The police have arrested Ramesh Dagdu Sathe (age 55, resident of Dattawadi, Pune), who worked as a peon in the children’s home. 

According to the information received, Ramesh Sathe had been sexually abusing two children aged around 11 in a orphanage for the past few months. He tied the children’s hands and feet and sometimes stuffed their mouths with cloths and threatened to kill the children if they told anyone. 

The manager of Sahyadri Adivasi Gramin Vikas Pratishthan, which runs the shelter, noticed the children’s disturbed behaviour and loss of appetite.  A case has been registered under the POCSO Act in this case. Initially, a case was registered at Ghodegaon police station, but now the investigation of this case has been transferred to Lonikand police station. When the police visited the spot and interacted with the children, they told the whole truth.

The accused has been arrested and strict action will be taken against him. The police are conducting further investigation into the matter and it will be important to see what comes to light.

The children, placed in the shelter under the Child Welfare Committee’s (CWC) orders, are now receiving counselling to help them recover from the trauma.
