Pune, December 3, 2023 : In a heartwarming celebration of the 554th Guru Nanak Jayanti, the Sikh Helpline Foundation marked the occasion with a remarkable green initiative at Gurdwara Guru Nanak Darbar in Pune Camp.

The centerpiece of the event was the distribution of one thousand plants to community members, setting a powerful example for environmental consciousness.

As Sikhs, our daily prayers resonate with the profound words of Guru Nanak:

These words translate to “Air is Guru, Water is our Father, and Earth is our Mother,” underscoring Guru Nanak’s deep reverence for the environment.

Raj Singh, the visionary founder of Sikh Helpline Foundation, expressed the organization’s commitment to driving the community towards green initiatives. Each community member received a Jade plant, symbolizing prosperity and suitable for indoor cultivation. The overarching goal is to raise awareness about climate change and inspire people to embrace the principles of Guru Nanak. Notably, a total of 1469 plants were distributed, a number that coincides with the birth year of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

One community member, Ravinder Singh, shared his perspective, saying, “Having this Jade plant on my side table will serve as a constant reminder for us to embrace eco-friendly initiatives.”

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the community, with many visiting the gurdwara to learn about and engage in the green initiative. Those who demonstrated a profound understanding of Guru Nanak’s principles were given a plant, thereby attracting the interest of more passersby.

In commemorating Guru Nanak Jayanti with this environmentally conscious gesture, the Sikh Helpline Foundation has not only paid tribute to the teachings of Guru Nanak but has also sown the seeds of a greener and more sustainable future for the community and the world at large.
