Pune: Sinhagad Fort Closed For Tourists Today And Tomorrow

In light of persistent heavy rains in the Sinhagad and Khadakwasla regions, the Forest Department has declared that Sinhagad Fort will be off-limits to tourists on Saturday (August 3) and Sunday (August 4). This closure is a proactive measure following the Indian Meteorological Department’s (IMD) issuance of a red alert for Saturday and an orange alert for Sunday.
On the morning of July 30, a landslide occurred within the last kilometer of the Sinhagad Ghat road. A large section of the mountain, including trees, collapsed onto the road, resulting in a considerable blockage of the route leading to the fort. The forest department, alongside the Ghera Sinhagad Forest Conservation Committee, began clearing the debris immediately. However, continuous rainfall has delayed the progress. Also, persistent heavy rains have turned the landslide soil into mud, complicating removal efforts.
“With forecasts predicting further heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday, we have decided to close the fort to vehicles for public safety,” stated Deepak Pawar, Assistant Deputy Conservator. He emphasized that this closure is essential to safeguard visitors from potential dangers.
Tourists are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and adhere to official warnings to avoid traveling to the area during adverse weather conditions. The public is urged to comply with these safety measures to ensure everyone’s well-being during this period of heavy rainfall. In light of persistent heavy rains in the Sinhagad and Khadakwasla regions, the Forest Department has declared that Sinhagad Fort will be off-limits to tourists on Saturday (August 3) and Sunday (August 4).
