Pune: Sinhagad Fort Closed On May 29 Amid Landslide Risk and Heavy Rain Alert; Trekking Routes Also Banned

Pune: Sinhagad Fort Closed To Visitors On June 3–4 Amid Ongoing Anti-Encroachment Drive
Pune, May 27, 2025: In light of continuous heavy rainfall and the heightened risk of landslides, the Pune Forest Department has announced the temporary closure of Sinhagad Fort for public safety. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the intense downpour is expected to persist over the coming days, prompting officials to take precautionary measures. The fort area shall remain closed for the entire day on May 29, 2025.
The decision to close the fort comes ahead of a scheduled disaster management inspection set to take place on Thursday, May 29. The closure is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of visitors during this period of adverse weather conditions.
As part of this directive, all trekking activities to the fort have also been suspended. Entry through popular routes such as Kalyan Darwaza, Atkarwadi, and other trekking paths will be strictly prohibited until further notice. Authorities are urging trekking enthusiasts and local visitors to refrain from attempting access to the site during this time.
The Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune, has appealed to citizens to fully cooperate with the administration. Emphasizing that the restriction is a necessary safety measure, the department has assured that regular updates will be provided based on weather developments and ground inspections.
Residents and tourists are requested to stay informed through official channels and avoid visiting the fort until it is declared safe for public entry once again. The administration’s primary concern remains the safety and well-being of all individuals during the monsoon season.
