Pune: Sinhagad Fort Closed To Visitors On June 3–4 Amid Ongoing Anti-Encroachment Drive
Pune | May 28, 2025: The Pune Forest Department has announced the temporary closure of Sinhagad Fort on May 30, 2025, citing continuous heavy rainfall and the risk of landslides in the area. The decision, aimed at ensuring public safety.
In addition to the weather concerns, the forest department is also conducting an ongoing encroachment removal drive on the fort premises. According to Tushar Chavan, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Pune, “The encroachment clearance process began earlier this week but remains incomplete due to poor visibility and fading daylight. Work will resume on May 30.”
The closure also coincides with a scheduled disaster management inspection to assess the fort’s structural and environmental conditions amid the adverse weather. Officials have suspended all trekking activities to the fort during this period, and entry via popular routes such as Kalyan Darwaza, Atkarwadi, and other trails will be strictly restricted.
The forest department has urged citizens and tourists to cooperate with the safety measures and avoid visiting the site until it is deemed safe for public access. Authorities have assured that updates regarding reopening will be issued based on weather evaluations and on-ground inspections.
