Pune: Sinhagad Road Remains Plunged In Darkness Despite Installation Of Light Poles
Despite the installation of streetlight poles on a 1-km stretch in Anandnagar of Sinhagad Road area nearly a year ago, the route remains shrouded in darkness, leaving residents frustrated and concerned for their safety.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had erected poles for streetlights on the patch between Manikbaug and Sun City Road nine months ago, but the illumination work remains unfinished. As a result, the stretch has become a hotspot for illegal activities, including open drinking and garbage dumping.
Residents have expressed their concerns about the safety risks posed by the lack of streetlights. “The entire road is pitch dark post-sunset. I ensure none of my family members venture out after dark as it is risky,” said Durva Rangamurthy, a resident.
Another resident, Aaradhya Kale, pointed out that the PMC had completed 90% of the road work and installed the streetlight poles around February-March this year. “However, PMC has done nothing to illuminate the area,” she said.
Local politician Mahesh Pokale has tried to intervene, but to no avail. “The road is a hotspot for illegal activities and can be unsafe for all. I have repeatedly followed up with PMC to put up streetlights for the residents’ safety. But they have closed the online ticket even though the issue has not been resolved,” said Pokale.
PMC has assured that necessary action will be taken.
The PMC’s inaction has left residents wondering when they can expect a resolution to the issue. With the darkness posing a significant safety risk, residents are urging the civic body to take immediate action to illuminate the stretch.
