Pune: Stunning Floral Sheshnag Décor Marks Sheshatmaj Ganesh Jayanti At Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Mandir

Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 Date, Puja Muhurat in Major Cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru
Pune: The iconic Dagdusheth Halwai Ganpati Temple in Pune came alive with a mesmerising floral depiction of Sheshnag, marking the celebration of Sheshatmaj Ganesh Jayanti—a divine form of Lord Ganesha believed to have appeared in the netherworld (Patal Lok). A silver idol of Lord Ganesh was ceremoniously enthroned within the temple sanctum amidst an intricately crafted floral representation of the multi-hooded serpent deity.
The elaborate arrangements were carried out by the Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Public Ganpati Trust and Suvarnayug Tarun Mandal. The unique decoration, featuring multicoloured flowers, paid tribute to the mythological occasion when Lord Ganesha took the Sheshatmaj form.
The early morning rituals began at 3 AM on Friday with a Brahmanaspati Sukt Abhishek, performed in the presence of Brahmin priests. At 4 AM, vocalist Pt. Kaivalya Kumar Gurav offered a devotional Swarabhishek, followed by a Ganesh Yag, Sahasravartan, and Ganesh Jag at the temple.
Trust president Sunil Rasane explained the significance of the day: “In the Ganpatya tradition, the Jyeshtha Shuddha Chaturthi is as important as Ganesh Jayanti in Bhadrapada and Magh months. It marks the divine birth of Lord Sheshatmaj—an incarnation of Ganesha.”
According to mythology, Lord Brahma, enchanted by his own creation, unknowingly birthed a divine child named Mayakar from his nostrils. Empowered with immense boons, Mayakar conquered Earth and the heavens and eventually attacked the underworld. Lord Shesh, helpless before Mayakar’s might, meditated on Lord Ganesha. From this meditation emerged the Sheshatmaj form of Ganesha, who later defeated the demon Gajasur while riding the divine mouse imbued with powers from deities like Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Devi, and Surya. This form of Ganesha also came to be known as Shrimushakg.
