Pune: Swargate-Katraj Metro Extension Gains Momentum As Six Firms Respond To Tender Process

Pune Metro Launches ₹100 Daily Pass For Unlimited Travel Ahead Of GaneshotsavÂ
PUNE: The Swargate to Katraj underground Metro corridor has taken a significant step forward, with six companies responding to the tender process initiated by Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro).
The bids submitted will now undergo technical and financial scrutiny by the tender committee. The process to finalise the qualified company is expected to take approximately 2 to 3 months. This marks another milestone in Pune’s expanding metro network.
The extended Swargate-Katraj corridor is a 5.46 km stretch with an estimated project cost of ₹3,637 crore. The proposed stations include Swargate, Market Yard, Sahakarnagar (Bibwewadi), Padmavati, and Katraj.
Why is this extension important?
The Swargate-Katraj road is one of the busiest routes in Pune, often witnessing heavy traffic congestion despite existing flyovers. The area covers densely populated localities such as Bibwewadi, Dhankawadi, Padmavati, Balajinagar, and Katraj. This metro extension aims to ease traffic, reduce accidents, cut down on pollution, and provide residents of Undri, Pisoli, and surrounding areas with a faster and more sustainable commuting option.
