Pune: A shocking incident took place at Pune’s Swargate bus depot, where a 26-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside a Shivshahi bus. The accused, Dattatraya Gade, had been evading arrest for several hours. After an extensive manhunt, Pune Police apprehended him around 1:30 AM. He is set to be presented in court later today.
Intense Search Operation
The incident has caused widespread outrage. Reports indicate that the accused, a habitual offender, had been loitering in the depot premises since midnight. As soon as the crime was reported, police launched a large-scale search operation. However, the delay in arresting the suspect led to criticism of the police force.
Arrest After a Dramatic Chase
After multiple unsuccessful attempts, police finally located Gade hiding in a sugarcane field in Gunat village. Using drone surveillance, officers spotted him but faced difficulties due to darkness. Eventually, after persistent efforts, the accused was arrested and brought to Pune overnight.
Police Efforts and Public Reaction
To nab the suspect, police had deployed 13 teams, and a significant police force was stationed in Gunat village once his location was traced. The delay in apprehension had sparked questions about police efficiency. However, authorities have now confirmed his arrest, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.
