Pune: A 35-year-old software engineer from Pimple Saudagar was assaulted by five men in Kasarwadi on Monday night after one of them claimed that the techie’s car had brushed against his scooter. The victim sustained injuries, including damage to his eardrum, during the attack.
Incident Details
The assault occurred around 8pm near the Kasarwadi flyover as the techie was driving home. A scooterist suddenly blocked his car and began hurling abuses, accusing the engineer of hitting his vehicle. The argument quickly escalated, and the scooterist started beating the techie.
When the techie tried to resist, the scooterist called four accomplices to the spot. The group then surrounded the victim and repeatedly punched him in the face and ears, leaving him injured. The attack caused significant injuries to his right eardrum.
After assaulting the techie, the attackers fled the scene.
Arrests
The Dapodi police, using the scooter’s registration number, identified and apprehended two suspects initially. Their investigation led to the arrest of three more accomplices later. All five attackers are residents of Kasarwadi and had no previous criminal records.
Sub-inspector Pankaj Mahajan, who is leading the investigation, told TOI, “With the help of the registration number of the scooter, we first took two men into custody and later arrested their three more accomplices. They did not have any previous criminal record,” he said. “The attack was brutal, and the victim is receiving medical care for his injuries.” The police are continuing their probe into the case.
