A 17-year-old boy was seriously injured following a violent assault near a roadside eatery in Talegaon Dabhade on Sunday evening, after a cellphone-related dispute spiraled out of control. Four juveniles, all aged 17, have been detained in connection with the attack.

According to police officials from Talegaon Dabhade police station, the victim, employed with a local milk distribution business, was ambushed by the group near the Pune-Mumbai highway. One of the boys attacked him with a sharp weapon, causing a deep injury to his left hand. A friend accompanying the teen also suffered minor injuries.

Police Sub-Inspector M.S. Mohare told The Times of India that the assault was the result of a feud that began two days earlier. “An argument over a mobile phone led to heated exchanges between the victim and one of the accused. The situation escalated, resulting in this premeditated attack,” he said.

Investigations reveal that the group intercepted the teen outside the eatery and attacked with sharp-edged weapons. The victim managed to raise his hand just in time to shield himself from a more serious head injury. The group also attacked his friend and threw stones at both boys before fleeing.

A formal complaint was lodged the next day, following which police launched an investigation and detained the suspects on Tuesday. The minors have been booked under Sections 109 (attempt to commit murder) and 115 (causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as applicable provisions of the Indian Arms Act.

Authorities also confirmed that the four boys have a previous record of involvement in violent offenses. “This was not an impulsive altercation,” Mohare added. “These individuals have shown a troubling pattern of violent behavior.”
