IMD Forecasts Heatwave-Like Conditions for Next Few Days
Pune’s Lohegaon area recorded the highest maximum temperature in Maharashtra on Saturday, soaring to 39.8°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The temperature rise is expected to persist for the next three to four days, with dry weather conditions prevailing across the state.
Rising Temperatures Across Pune
Lohegaon has consistently reported high temperatures this month, previously recording 38.6°C on March 3 and 38°C on March 6. Other areas in Pune also witnessed a sharp rise, with Koregaon Park reaching 39.1°C and Chinchwad recording 39.4°C on Saturday.
IMD data shows that Pune’s maximum temperature on March 7 was 36.4°C, exceeding the normal level by 1.5°C, while on March 8, it climbed to 38°C—3.1°C above normal.
Statewide Temperature Trends
Maximum temperatures across Maharashtra are currently above normal by 1.7°C to 4.6°C. Lohegaon’s temperature exceeded the normal range by 4.6°C, making it the hottest location in the state.
Previously, Bramhapuri recorded 38.6°C on March 2, Lohegaon hit 39.6°C on March 3, and Solapur registered 39.4°C on March 4. Yavatmal saw the highest temperature in the state this month, reaching 41.2°C on March 7.
Heatwave Alert for Coastal Maharashtra
IMD has issued a yellow alert for heatwave-like conditions in isolated areas of coastal Maharashtra, including Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and parts of Mumbai.
Night Temperature Drops Slightly
Despite the rising daytime heat, Pune experienced a slight drop in nighttime temperatures over the past 48 hours. The minimum temperature on March 7 was 13.2°C, which was 1.6°C below normal, while on March 8, it was recorded at 14.4°C, aligning with the normal range.
According to an IMD official, the temporary impact of cool northern winds contributed to the drop in nighttime temperatures. However, with this effect fading, night temperatures are expected to rise again from March 8 onward.
Currently, no active weather system is influencing Maharashtra, leading to persistently dry and warm conditions across the state.
