Pune, July 26, 2025: The Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) is leading the country in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, education, and green mobility. With its rapidly advancing infrastructure, Pune holds significant potential to be developed as a ‘Growth Hub’. In this context, YASHADA (Yashwantrao Chavan Academy of Development Administration) will prepare an economic growth strategy and development plan for the region, and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) will allocate funds for the initiative. A meeting regarding this proposal was held at the ministry with relevant officials as per the guidelines of NITI Aayog. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar chaired the meeting.

In the Union Budget 2024, the central government announced the development of 14 ‘Growth Hub’ cities across the country. In the first phase, this concept is being implemented in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Surat, Visakhapatnam, and Varanasi. Now, Pune, Nagpur, and Nashik have been added to this list, with preparations underway for the G-Hub project for the Pune Metropolitan Region.

Pune is already at the forefront of becoming a Growth Hub due to its strong presence of IT companies, metro connectivity, industrial corridors, and world-class educational and healthcare facilities. The development plan being prepared by YASHADA will be monitored by the Divisional Commissioner, while its implementation will be carried out by municipal corporations, PMRDA, and other relevant agencies.

Pune’s current Gross Regional Product is ₹4.2 lakh crore, and by 2030, the city is expected to generate 15 to 18 lakh new jobs, including at least 6 lakh opportunities for women workers. This will make Pune the first city in the country to adopt such a comprehensive economic development strategy.

Key sectors like Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Electric Vehicles, Clean Tech, and Semiconductor Design—along with the industrial strength of clusters in Chakan, Talegaon, and Ranjangaon MIDC, including automotive, aerospace, precision engineering, and pharmaceuticals—will play a crucial role in Pune’s development. With over 800 higher education institutions, Pune is also poised to emerge as a major skilling and export hub.

The city’s holistic development will be further supported by metro connectivity, the ring road project, new townships, smart urbanization, and opportunities in heritage, agricultural, and spiritual tourism. Improvements in ease of doing business, startup-friendly initiatives, and foreign investment policies are expected to position Pune as a recognized ‘Global Growth Hub’.
