Pune Traffic Department Makes Key Decision: Weekend Relaxation For Three Types Of Vehicles
Pune | August 2, 2025: To ease growing traffic congestion in Pune and streamline the movement of construction-related vehicles, the city’s traffic department has made a key decision to conditionally relax restrictions on certain heavy vehicles during weekends.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav has issued a temporary order allowing movement of dumpers and ready-mix concrete trucks within city limits on Saturdays and Sundays. This decision is currently on a trial basis and may be revised after further evaluation.
Under the new rule, vehicles related to construction will be permitted to ply on city roads during weekends. However, restrictions will remain in place for slow-moving vehicles such as JCBs, road rollers, tractors, and other general goods carriers.
Weekend Movement Schedule for Heavy Vehicles:
- Saturdays (August 2 to August 23): Heavy vehicles will be allowed on roads except between 4 PM and 10 PM.
- Public Holiday (August 15): Same timing restrictions apply.
- Sundays (August 3 to August 24): Full-day movement of approved heavy vehicles will be allowed across the city, including red zones designated by the traffic police.
The traffic department clarified that this measure is aimed at reducing weekday congestion and ensuring smoother construction logistics. Builders and drivers have been asked to strictly follow the order. Any violations will attract action under the Motor Vehicles Act.
Officials stated that this trial initiative will help assess the impact on overall city traffic and may be extended or modified based on results and public feedback.
