Pune, September 30, 2025: Pune’s traffic woes have worsened with the onset of heavy rains, as the city traffic police have identified 131 waterlogging points and 102 pothole-ridden stretches that are consistently causing traffic snarls.

According to a study conducted by the traffic department, long queues of vehicles were reported across several arterial roads after downpours. Even three VIPs visiting the city last week were caught in jams due to the poor condition of roads.

Pune traffic division has sent a detailed letter with photographs to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), requesting urgent repairs and measures like water pumps or vents to drain out flooded areas.

The traffic police have also set up a dedicated team to coordinate with PMC officials, taking daily feedback on repair and maintenance work.

Among the worst-hit areas are Warje, Market Yard, Gangadham Chowk, Katraj-Kondhwa Road, Vadgaon Chowk on Sinhagad Road, Vimannagar Junction, Gunjan Chowk, Khadki, Ganeshkhind Road, Baner Road, and Satara Road. The Khadki underpass and Wakadewadi remain particularly problematic, often bringing old Pune-Mumbai Road and New Sangamwadi Road to a standstill.

With potholes worsening and waterlogging recurring in multiple spots, traffic police have urged immediate intervention to ease congestion and ensure smoother traffic movement in the city.
