Pune Tragedy: 7-Year-Old Girl Electrocuted While Playing, One More Injured – Locals Blame MSEDCL Negligence
Pune | June 3, 2025 — A heartbreaking incident in Pune’s Nana Peth area has left the city in shock, as a 7-year-old girl named Sayali lost her life due to electrocution while playing near a live electric pole. Another child, a boy named Shilimkar, was seriously injured in the same incident and has reportedly lost function in one of his legs.
The tragic event occurred in the Doke Talim area on Monday evening between 5 and 7 PM. According to eyewitnesses, Sayali, daughter of Ganesh Dambe, and her friend were playing on the roadside when she accidentally touched an electric pole reportedly carrying live current. The shock was so powerful that she died on the spot. The accompanying boy also suffered an electric shock and is currently in critical condition.
Locals Blame MSEDCL for Gross Negligence
Residents of the area have strongly condemned the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) for their alleged carelessness. Locals claim the live wire and faulty electric infrastructure were left unattended for days, despite repeated complaints. They say the exposed electric pole should have been repaired or barricaded long ago.
Social activists and citizens gathered in protest soon after the incident, demanding accountability and immediate safety checks across the city. “How many more innocent lives will be lost before the authorities wake up?” questioned a local resident.
Public Outcry Over MSEDCL’s “Deadly Negligence”
The community has called for urgent inspection of all live electrical installations, transformers, and poles—especially in residential and high-footfall areas. Many have demanded compensation for the affected families and stringent action against the responsible MSEDCL officials.
This devastating incident has once again exposed the unsafe and poorly maintained power infrastructure in Pune, putting public safety at serious risk.
