Pune: A pedestrian named Surendra Singh Shailendra Singh Kumpawat, aged 48, from Chandan Nagar, Kharadi, was hit and killed by an animal ambulance driver near Forest Park in Lohegaon. The incident happened on Saturday, July 13, at around 7:45 PM. The Vimantal police have arrested the driver, Sanjay Channappa Mulloli, aged 26, from Wadebollahi, Taluka Haweli, based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s younger brother, Mahendra Singh, aged 43.
Upon receiving the information, Police Inspector (Crime) Sarjerao Kumbhar visited the accident site. Medical tests revealed that driver Mulloli had consumed alcohol. The Vimantal police reported that the accused was arrested at midnight. A few days ago, a similar incident occurred in Bopodi where a speeding vehicle hit and killed a police officer; that driver had also consumed alcohol.
Such incidents in Pune are creating a threat and creating a notorious image of the city. Stricter enforcement as well as awareness campaigns should be put in place to avoid these circumstances. Hopefully, the new proposal of license cancellation proposed by the Pune Police Department will be approved by the Pune court, and its implementation will prevent and minimize the fatal and devastating impacts that accidents and negligence of accused people are causing to society.
