Pune, September 13, 2025: A quiet Thursday afternoon (September 11) turned tragic in Pune’s Lohegaon area when a two-year-old boy died after being hit by a car inside the Air Force Station colony. The incident has left the residents of the secure premises shocked and grieving.

The child has been identified as Vidharth Vipin Mavi, the only son of Air Force officer Vipin Rajsingh Mavi, 34. According to the complaint filed by the father at the Viman Nagar Police Station, Vidharth was playing in the courtyard of their residence around 12:30 pm when the accident happened.

Woman Driver Detained

Police said a 37-year-old woman, also a resident of the colony, was behind the wheel when the tragedy occurred. She allegedly reversed her car without noticing the toddler and accidentally ran over him near a play school located within the premises. She was detained by Viman Nagar Police on Friday, September 12, a day after the incident.

Investigators stated that the back wheel of the car ran over the child, causing serious injuries. The toddler was rushed immediately to a nearby private hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Following the complaint from the father, Viman Nagar Police registered a case against the woman driver. The charges have been filed under sections 106, 281, 125(a), and 125(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for negligent driving. 

Moreover, locals have urged authorities to create safer play areas and to enforce rules that restrict vehicle speed within the colony. Several parents expressed fear that similar accidents could occur again if proper measures are not taken.

Investigation Continues

Police said they are examining all details of the accident and will record further statements from witnesses. The woman driver remains in custody as the investigation continues. Authorities stressed that appropriate legal action will follow once the inquiry is complete.
