Pune | June 4, 2025 — The residents of Undri, Mohamadwadi and Kondhwa, have submitted a formal appeal to the Pune Police Commissioner, requesting the reinstatement of Senior Police Inspector Kumar Ghadge in the Kondhwa Traffic Division following his recent transfer to the Traffic Control Room.

The sudden transfer has sparked widespread concern among local citizens, who praised Ghadge’s impactful work in resolving traffic issues across key congestion points such as Jyoti Hotel Chowk, Bakri Hills Chowk, Salunke Vihar, Parge Nagar, Sheetal Petrol Pump, and Kausar Baug. According to the letter, Ghadge was not only a capable officer but also a trusted and compassionate presence in the area.

“Ghadge didn’t just perform his duty; he treated Kondhwa like his own home. His hands-on approach, deep analysis of local problems, and people-centric solutions brought significant improvement in traffic discipline,” the letter stated.

It also highlighted that the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on February 15, 2025 at the Pune Police Headquarters, Shivaji Nagar had recently honored Ghadge for his outstanding service in the field.

“We, the concerned residents, earnestly request Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, DGP Maharashtra, CP Pune, and Additional CP Pune to reconsider the proposed transfer of Senior Police Inspector Kumar Ghadge from Kondhwa Police Station to the Traffic Headquarters in Yerwada. Sr PI Ghadge has demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to maintaining law and order in one of Pune’s most challenging areas. His on-ground presence has brought visible changes — from curbing illegal encroachments to taking firm action against undisciplined traffic, all while handling politically sensitive challenges with courage and fairness. His departure at this critical time would be deeply detrimental to the stability and ongoing progress of our neighbourhoods,” said a letter written by Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF).

In an area plagued by chronic congestion, poor infrastructure, noise pollution, and the reckless behaviour of certain groups, Sr PI Ghadge has been a rare and responsive officer who actively engages with citizens and ensures enforcement without bias. He listens to residents, acts swiftly, and is widely respected for his integrity. We fear that replacing him now could undo the positive momentum achieved. We appeal to you to retain him in his current post and empower him further to continue delivering effective policing that prioritizes public safety and community trust,” stated MURWDF’s appeal.

Residents noted that several of his traffic reform initiatives are now left incomplete due to his absence, raising fears of renewed chaos. The community emphasized the urgency of bringing him back to complete the work he began.

“In his absence, many initiatives have stalled. Kondhwa once again stands on the brink of traffic disorder,” said Jaymala Dhankikar, an active resident of NIBM road area who stated that the members of NIBM Annexe Residents Forum have received great help by Ghadge in resolving traffic issues near Tribeca High Street, Raheja Circle, Salunke Vihar road, etc.

Citizens are hopeful that their united voice will be heard and that Sr PI Ghadge, described as a “sensitive, dedicated, and efficient officer,” will be reposted in Kondhwa in the interest of public safety and order.

The Commissioner’s decision on the matter is now awaited with great anticipation across the community.
