The Khadak police have registered a case against an unknown caller who demanded an extortion of ₹70 lakh from a waste paper shop owner by threatening to harm his family.

According to the police, the complainant, who owns three waste paper shops in different parts of the city, received a call from the unknown person on December 22. The caller threatened to kill the complainant’s son, prompting him to disconnect the call.

However, the caller persisted, making three more calls on December 26. The complainant then approached the police and filed a complaint application. Despite this, the caller continued to harass the complainant, demanding ₹70 lakh from him on December 29.

The police have registered a case under section 308 (extortion by putting any person in fear of death or of grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are working on some clues to track down the unknown caller.
