Pune, September 18, 2025: The local body elections in Maharashtra have been pending for nearly three and a half to four years. Following the Supreme Court’s directions, political activities have gained momentum, but the state government has yet to announce the election dates. This prolonged delay has left party workers, who have been preparing extensively, frustrated and disheartened.

Amid this, Thackeray group leader Vasant More’s Facebook post has stirred discussions. Expressing his irritation, he remarked that despite the Supreme Court ordering the state to conduct the polls within four months — a deadline that expired in May — excuses such as monsoon, pending OBC reservation issues, and other reasons were cited for the postponement. The court has now clearly instructed that elections must be held before January 31, with a schedule fixed accordingly.

Still, the lack of exact dates has exasperated local workers. More’s post reflects this sentiment. In his words:

Balwadkar

“While sipping tea this morning, I thought — BJP claims they will win 100 corporators in Pune. If they are so confident, let them announce the names of their 100 candidates right now. And at least, hold elections for the remaining 65 seats… Enough is enough. The aspirants are tired and drained after spending so much already.”
