Pune, June 14, 2025: The Viman Nagar Citizens Forum has issued a strong appeal to senior officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Pune Traffic Police, demanding immediate action against what it calls a “continuous eyesore” on the VIP Airport Road near Sanjay Park slums. The stretch, which serves as a key corridor for passengers to and from Pune Airport via the Ramwadi underpass, has reportedly remained in a neglected state for over a decade.

In a formal complaint sent via email, forum convenor Qaneez Sukhrani criticized the civic administration for allowing filth, construction debris, garbage, and illegal parking to fester along a 400-metre stretch of this high-profile road. “It is an embarrassment for both domestic and foreign visitors. This is no way to welcome guests in a country that proclaims ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’,” Sukhrani wrote.

According to the complaint, construction material and waste have spilled over onto the footpaths and parts of the road, while unauthorized vehicle parking—despite the road being marked as “No Parking/No Halting”—continues unabated. The Forum questioned whether PMC is incapable of enforcing basic cleanliness and traffic norms in the area, and also asked why the Traffic Police have not taken stricter action.

Citing the national importance of the issue, Sukhrani revealed that the matter has already been escalated to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). “If the PMO’s intervention is required for basic civic duties, it reflects poorly on local governance,” she added.

The letter, marked “urgent,” has been addressed to officials across departments, including the DMC Zone 1, AMC Nagar Road Ward, Road Department Engineers, DCP Traffic, and Additional Municipal Commissioners. Copies have also been sent to Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishor Ram, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, and local MLA Bapu Pathare.

The Citizens Forum has demanded that visible and sustained action be taken within one week and that photographic evidence of clean-up efforts be shared on a regular basis by PMC.

As of now, no official response has been issued by the civic authorities. Residents and frequent commuters in the area await prompt and concrete action.
