Pune Viral Video: 59-Year-Old Man Detained for Urinating on Shivsrushti Poster Near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Memorial in Ambegaon Budruk
Pune: A 59-year-old man was detained by Pune Police after a video of him urinating on a poster of Shivsrushti, a historical theme park dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, went viral on social media. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at Ambegaon Budruk, near the entrance of the upcoming memorial.
The man has been identified as Amol Arun Kulkarni, a resident of Dhayari. According to Bharti Vidyapeeth Police, the incident took place at around 3 am and was captured by Sinhgad College students, who noticed suspicious activity while returning via Navale Bridge. They recorded the act on a mobile phone and alerted members of the Maratha Seva Sangh, who in turn informed the police.
Senior Police Inspector Savalaram Salgaonkar said, “The students informed the Maratha Seva Sangh members, who reached the spot and called the police. We detained Kulkarni and brought him to the station for questioning. We are investigating the motive behind his actions at such an odd hour.”
An official complaint was filed by Nayanath Tukaram Amrale (23), who stated that two vehicles were parked outside the memorial gate and that the accused, later identified as Kulkarni, was seen urinating on the signboard while a woman, believed to be his wife Sneha Amol Kulkarni (57), stood nearby recording something on her phone.
When confronted, the accused reportedly replied arrogantly, saying, “Do whatever you want.” This angered locals, who called the police and demanded strict action.
A legal complaint has now been registered against both Amol and Sneha Kulkarni for hurting religious sentiments under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. The case is currently being investigated by API Mithun Pardeshi.
The incident has triggered strong reactions across Pune, with many drawing parallels to previous controversies involving public figures accused of disrespecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Local residents and activists have condemned the act as an insult to Maharashtra’s cultural pride.
