Pune: Wagholi Residents Deprived Of Water Despite ₹23 Crore PMRDA Project
Pune, October 10, 2025: A 50-lakh-litre capacity water project in Wagholi, constructed by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) at a cost of ₹23 crore, remains non-functional even after five years, leaving thousands of residents without a proper drinking water supply.
Local citizens and activists have alleged that the project, despite being nearly complete, has been deliberately kept inactive due to political and bureaucratic pressure. They have questioned why the facility, built entirely with public funds, has not yet been commissioned and who is responsible for the delay.
Residents have described the situation as a grave misuse of taxpayer money and a sign of corruption within the system. They have demanded transparency, accountability, and immediate action against the officials or influential individuals obstructing the project’s launch.
The Wagholi Area Citizens Organization (WACO) has announced its plan to reveal the names of the officers and other concerned officials allegedly responsible for the inaction. The group has also demanded their suspension and legal proceedings to ensure that public infrastructure projects serve the people as intended.
