Pune: Wall Collapse Near Kad Nagar Sparks Anger Among Undri Residents Following Heavy Rain
Undri, Pune: A wall adjoining Mahalaxmi Vihar near Kad Nagar in Undri collapsed on Tuesday following a heavy downpour, triggering severe waterlogging and property damage in the area. The incident led to water gushing into several nearby shops, resulting in significant losses for local shopkeepers.
Residents expressed outrage over the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) repeated negligence, stating that the issue of the weak wall and poor drainage infrastructure had been raised multiple times, yet no action was taken. The collapse has renewed concerns about the area’s readiness to handle heavy rains during the monsoon.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, the head of PMC’s drainage department acknowledged the incident and assured that necessary assistance would be extended to those affected. He also stated that the building construction department will be informed immediately to take corrective measures and prevent future mishaps.
Local shop owners are now demanding immediate repair work and compensation for the damages incurred. The incident has highlighted the urgent need for better stormwater management and regular infrastructure assessments in rapidly growing areas like Undri. Residents are also calling for swift administrative action to ensure safety and accountability before more such accidents occur.
