Pune: Wanawadi Police Book Landlord For Not Reporting Tenant Information As Per Rules
Pune | May 3, 2025 — The Wanawadi Police have registered a case against a landlord for failing to report tenant details, a legal requirement under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), aimed at strengthening community safety.
The action follows a citywide directive by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, emphasizing the mandatory submission of tenant and employee details to local police under Section 163(3) of BNSS. The regulation is part of preventive measures to curb illegal activities and enhance security in urban neighborhoods.
During a verification drive in Wanawadi, a police team found that a resident of Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar, had housed tenants without informing the authorities, as mandated. Upon questioning, the accused admitted to not submitting the required information.
A case has been filed against him under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Wanawadi Police Station.
This is not a mere formality but a crucial safety protocol. Non-compliance will lead to legal consequences,” said police, urging landlords and employers to adhere to the law.
The inspection and case registration were carried out under the supervision of DCP (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and ACP Dhanyakumar Ghodse, with PSI Sapna Solanke and staff members Jyotiba Kurale, Pradeep Garje, Utreshwar Dhas, and Pardhi on the ground.
