Pune, October 7, 2025: In a remarkable breakthrough, the Wanawadi Police in Pune have arrested a rickshaw driver and detained two juveniles involved in a series of night-time robberies targeting passengers. The police recovered 30 stolen mobile phones valued at ₹3,70,200, along with a weapon and a rickshaw used in the crimes.

The arrests were made after constables Atul Gaikwad and Amol Pilane received a tip-off about three individuals attempting to sell a stolen mobile phone near the washing center close to New MHADA Colony, Hadapsar. Acting swiftly under the direction of Assistant Police Inspector Umakant Mahadik, the team conducted a raid and detained the suspects when they tried to flee in their rickshaw (MH12 VB 9420).

The main accused has been identified as Faizan Mohammad Gaus Shaikh, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, Uruli Devachi, Pune. Two juveniles were also taken into custody. Upon inspection, police found a Vivo mobile phone and a knife hidden inside the vehicle’s compartment.

During interrogation, Faizan Shaikh confessed that about two months ago, he and the juveniles began robbing lone passengers at night. They would pick up unsuspecting commuters from Pune Railway Station, claiming to drop them at Shivajinagar for ₹50. Instead, they diverted the rickshaw to an isolated spot near Turf Club, Racecourse, or Bhairobanala, where they threatened victims at knifepoint and stole their cash and mobile phones.

Following the arrest, the police seized one stolen mobile phone and the rickshaw used in the crime, valued at ₹80,100. Further investigation led to the recovery of 29 additional stolen mobile phones worth ₹2,90,100, found in a blue bag belonging to the accused.

The suspects are linked to multiple cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 309(4), 3(5), and IPC Section 379, registered at the Wanawadi Police Station.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar ShindeAssistant Commissioner of Police (Wanawadi Division) Dhanyakumar Godse, and Senior Police Inspector Vijaykumar Doke. The investigating team included API Umakant Mahadik, and constables Daya Shegar, Mahesh Gadhave, Amol Pilane, Atul Gaikwad, Vishnu Sutar, Gopal Madane, Abhijit Chavan, Amol Gaikwad, Arshad Sayyed, Vitthal Chormale, Yatin Bhosale, Balaji Waghmare, Ashish Kamble, and woman constable Sujata Phulsundar.

The arrested accused has been produced before the court, while the juveniles have been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.

Senior Inspector Vijaykumar Doke commended the team’s prompt and efficient work, which helped uncover a series of robberies and recover significant stolen property.
