Pune, June 8, 2025: Severe waterlogging near the Kalyani Nagar Metro Station on Saturday has raised serious concerns over pedestrian and commuter safety. Citizens navigating the area were forced to walk on the main road due to flooded footpaths, risking accidents amidst ongoing traffic.

The issue came to light when commuters reported that the stagnant water had made it nearly impossible to use pedestrian walkways. As a result, many were seen walking in the middle of the road, further slowing down traffic and endangering lives. The situation was particularly hazardous during peak hours when the road saw increased vehicular movement.

Local residents and daily commuters have urged the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and MahaMetro authorities to take swift action. They pointed out that such water accumulation not only disrupts traffic flow but also obstructs emergency services and poses a long-term public health threat due to potential mosquito breeding in the stagnant water.

“This is not just an inconvenience, it’s a safety hazard. The authorities need to ensure proper drainage and immediate cleanup before someone gets seriously hurt,” said a concerned resident.

Civic activists have demanded that the drainage infrastructure in the vicinity of the Metro Station be upgraded to prevent recurring issues during the monsoon season. They have also stressed the need for better coordination between PMC and Metro officials to ensure commuter safety.

Immediate remedial measures are awaited to prevent further risk to pedestrians and road users in the area.
