IMD issues yellow alert; incidents of waterlogging and tree falls reported across city

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune city and several parts of the district, warning of heavy rain between June 13 and June 17. Cloudy skies have loomed over the city since morning, and more rain is expected in the coming hours.

According to the IMD, the Ghat regions are also likely to receive intense rainfall. The department has appealed to residents to stay alert and take all necessary precautions to ensure safety during this weather spell.

Late Thursday night, several areas of Pune including Aundh, Bopodi, Pashan, Soos, Mahalunge, Kothrud, and Bavdhan witnessed heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. The downpour led to significant waterlogging on roads, severely affecting traffic movement. Residents, particularly in Kothrud and Bavdhan, experienced delays and inconvenience due to poor drainage.

Strong winds and lightning also caused trees to fall in multiple locations. In a concerning incident near Navale Bridge, an elderly woman was reportedly swept away by a sudden stream of rainwater. Rescue operations by the fire brigade are currently underway, though the woman has yet to be located.
