Temperature Drops Across City as Intense Rain Hits Several Areas

Pune – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 48-hour weather alert for Pune and surrounding regions, warning residents of unseasonal thunderstorms, gusty winds, and heavy rainfall. The forecast indicates that winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected to lash the city and nearby ghat areas within the next 24 hours.

Cloudy skies, lightning, and intense spells of rain are likely to impact several parts of Pune. The IMD has advised citizens to remain alert and take necessary precautions during this period of unstable weather.

Vineet Kumar, a Research Scientist at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), shared an update on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “IMD has issued a nowcast alert for thunderstorms in Pune. As per radar data, the thunderstorm was moving towards Pune city and PCMC.

Short-duration showers have already occurred in areas such as Sus Goan, Airport, Charoli, Hadapsar, Fursungi, Kothrud, and parts of Pashan. The thunderstorm has now passed, and rain is unlikely in most parts of Pune tonight until morning.”

The weather changes have led to a noticeable dip in temperatures across the city. On Thursday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 37°C, with Lohegaon reaching 38°C, Chinchwad at 36°C, Lavale at 35°C, Magarpatta at 37°C, and Koregaon Park recording the lowest at 33°C.
