Pune Weather Update: Lohegaon Records 129.2 mm Rainfall, IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Pune Till September 17
Pune, September 16, 2025: Heavy overnight showers brought the city to a standstill on Monday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a yellow alert for Pune district until September 17. Officials have forecast light to moderate rain over the next two days, with conditions expected to ease from September 18.
The downpour, one of the heaviest of the season so far, caused severe disruptions in multiple parts of the city. Waterlogging during peak traffic hours led to long delays, while the fire department responded to at least 10 incidents of tree falls between Sunday evening and Monday morning.
Lohegaon emerged as the wettest spot, recording 129.2 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on September 14 and 8:30 am on September 15, making it the first Pune station to cross the 100 mm mark in a single day this month. Other areas also saw heavy showers, with Chinchwad reporting 82.5 mm, Shivajinagar 60 mm, and Pashan 61.1 mm.
Citizen submissions under IMD’s ‘Varun Mitra’ initiative revealed even higher figures on the outskirts. Loni registered a staggering 240 mm in just 24 hours, while Sortapwadi recorded 214.2 mm.

Meteorologists linked the rainfall to multiple active weather systems. While a low-pressure area over north Telangana and Vidarbha has weakened, the associated cyclonic circulation continues to influence conditions. Additional systems over Bihar, Assam, Meghalaya, and the Bay of Bengal are also contributing to widespread rainfall across Maharashtra.
According to the IMD bulletin, Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra will see light to moderate showers with isolated heavy spells until September 18, while Marathwada is expected to receive significant rainfall, including very heavy showers on September 15 and 16.
