Maharashtra Weather Update: Thunderstorms and Rain Expected In The Next 24 Hours, IMD Issues Warning
5 August, 2024
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light to moderate rainfall for the city until August 10, indicating that there won’t be any immediate relief from the rain.
On Sunday, the city experienced continuous rain showers throughout the day, with Shivajinagar receiving 53.2mm, Lohegaon 39mm, and Pashan 53.1mm of rainfall in the last 33 hours up to 5.30 pm.
The rainfall over the city will decrease starting from Monday (August 5) as the depression that formed over Jharkhand and the surrounding areas is now moving westwards. This movement is expected to weaken the monsoon flow over the state in the next 48 hours, leading to a reduction in rainfall activity,” stated a senior meteorological official. From August 6 onwards, the city is anticipated to experience light to moderate rainfall.
The intensity of the rainfall won’t be as high as what the city experienced in the last 24 hours. The city will have cloudy skies throughout the week, as mentioned by the official. Due to the continuous rainfall and persistent cloudy conditions over the city in recent days, the daytime temperatures have decreased. Shivajinagar and Lohegaon recorded temperatures of 24.7 degrees C and 24.8 degrees C, respectively, which were 2.8 degrees and 2.7 degrees below normal, according to meteorological officials. In addition, the Ghat areas in Pune district are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 5.
From August 6 onwards, the intensity of the rainfall in the ghat sections in Bhor, Velhe, Maval, Mulshi, Khed, Ambegaon, and Junnar tehsils is expected to decrease, as mentioned by the officials. Marathwada and Vidarbha regions saw minimal rainfall on Sunday, with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recording 0.5mm and Parbhani 0.2mm. In Vidarbha, Akola received 6mm, Amravati 5mm, Yavatmal 8mm, Wardha 5mm, and Nagpur 3mm of rainfall.
