A woman in Pune has been booked after her pet dog allegedly bit a passerby in the Budhwar Peth area, raising concerns over pet owner responsibility and public safety.

The incident took place early Wednesday morning when 23-year-old Niraj Prakash Patil, a resident of Akurdi, was walking through a lane behind Ratan Talkies. According to the complaint, Patil was bitten on the waist by a dog, prompting him to file a First Information Report (FIR) at Vishrambag Police Station.

Police have identified the dog’s owner as Manisha Malegaonkar, a resident of Budhwar Peth. She has been charged under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for negligent conduct with respect to animals. Authorities allege that Malegaonkar failed to take adequate measures to prevent her dog from attacking others.
