Pune, July 23, 2025: In a shocking twist to the alleged courier boy assault case that rattled Pune earlier this month, police investigations have revealed the complaint to be false. The woman who filed the complaint has now been booked for fabricating the incident and misleading authorities.

The Kondhwa police have registered a non-cognisable offence against the woman under sections 212, 217, 228, and 229 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for furnishing false information, creating fake evidence, and provoking officers into misuse of authority. Officials have sought court approval to register a cognisable offence as well.

Fabricated assault and doctored evidence
On July 3, the woman had alleged that a man posing as a courier boy entered her home, used a spray to render her unconscious, and sexually assaulted her. She further claimed she later discovered semi-nude photos of herself with the man on her phone, along with a threatening message: “Leak these and I’ll come again. Be ready.”

The case prompted a massive investigation involving over 500 officers and scrutiny of 250 CCTV camera feeds. However, investigators discovered glaring inconsistencies in her account.

The accused, it turned out, was not a stranger but a man known to her for over a year. WhatsApp chats revealed she had invited him over on July 1 and even instructed him to carry extra clothes. Forensic checks showed the compromising photo was taken with her consent and later edited to include the threatening message before being handed to police.

Timeline of deception
CCTV footage confirmed the man left the building at 8:27 p.m. on July 2 — the exact time the image was manipulated on her phone. Investigators retrieved the original photo showing both faces clearly, which had been deleted in an attempt to mislead the probe.

Despite being shown evidence, the woman repeatedly denied knowing the man until confronted with technical data and CCTV clips.

Deliberate attempt to mislead authorities
This was a planned effort to misdirect the investigation and waste resources. The woman has been booked for giving false information. Further action will be taken after court approval, said officials.

The fabricated complaint had initially sent shockwaves across Pune and raised concerns over delivery agent safety protocols. Authorities are now warning of strict legal action in similar cases to deter misuse of police machinery.
