Pune Woman Loses ₹9.80 Lakh In MNGL Gas Connection Scam

A 58-year-old woman from Ganesh nagar, Dhayari, has fallen victim to a cunning scam, losing ₹9.80 lakh to cyber thieves posing as Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) officials.
The scammers sent a message to her mobile, threatening to disconnect her gas connection if she didn’t pay her outstanding bill. Believing the message to be genuine, the woman contacted the alleged MNGL official, who instructed her to download an APK app related to her gas connection.
After downloading the app, she was asked to enter her debit card information and provide a one-time password (OTP). Little did she know, this would lead to 17 unauthorized transactions from her bank account, totaling ₹9.80 lakh.
The woman realized she had been duped and promptly filed a complaint at the Sinhagad Road police station. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
This incident highlights the growing concern of cybercrime in Pune, with scammers using various tactics to deceive unsuspecting victims. Citizens are urged to be cautious of such scams and report any suspicious activities to the authorities immediately.
