In a disturbing case of fraud, a woman allegedly impersonated a “national advisor at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)” and swindled Rs 50 lakh from a businessman in Pune. The victim, Gorakh Maral, 49, who deals in supplying building materials, filed a complaint at the Bund Garden police station against the accused, identified as Kashmira Sandip Pawar, along with her accomplice Ganesh Gaikwad, both residents of Satara district.

According to the police, Kashmira duped Maral by promising to leverage her supposed government connections to secure a lucrative government tender for him. She even went as far as sharing fake tender documents via WhatsApp to gain his trust. Between December 2019 and March 2022, Kashmira allegedly collected Rs 50 lakh from Maral, partly in cash and partly online, under the pretense of facilitating the tender process. However, Maral never received any government contract as promised.

When Maral realized he had been deceived and did not receive any returns on his investment, he decided to approach the Pune City police and lodge a formal complaint. The case has been registered under sections 419 (cheating by personation), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code. Police Sub Inspector Ravindra Gawade of Bund Garden police station is currently investigating the matter.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes and to verify credentials before entering into any financial transactions involving promises of government contracts or benefits.
