Pune Youth Surprises All, Files Nomination for Vice President Election
Pune: In an unexpected move, a youth from Sajapur village in Daund taluka, Umesh Mhetre, has filed his nomination for the Vice President of India election. His decision has sparked widespread discussion in his village and beyond.
The election process was set in motion after former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post. The NDA has fielded Tamil Nadu Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan as its candidate, while the INDIA bloc has announced former Supreme Court judge Sudarshan Reddy as its nominee.

Amid these high-profile names, Umesh Mhetre from a small village in Maharashtra has also entered the fray by submitting his nomination papers in New Delhi on the last day of filing. He deposited the mandatory ₹15,000 along with the required documents before Returning Officers P.C. Modi and Girima Jain in the Rajya Sabha Secretariat.
Mhetre’s decision has taken many by surprise, as it is unusual for an ordinary youth to contest for one of the highest constitutional posts in the country. This is not his first attempt at electoral politics. Earlier, he had filed papers as an independent candidate for the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. However, since he did not have the mandatory support letters from 10 MLAs, his nomination was rejected at that time.
With the Vice President election set to witness a contest between established political figures, Mhetre’s nomination has become a talking point in Daund taluka, drawing curiosity and mixed reactions.
