Mumbai, September 23, 2025: The Maharashtra government has sanctioned ₹59.75 crore for the repair and widening of the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur National Highway No. 548D (formerly State Highway 55), covering the stretch from km 0/00 to km 54/00. Public Works Minister Shivendrasinhraje Bhosale announced the approval, stating that the project will help reduce accidents, ease traffic congestion, and provide major relief for industrial transport.

The project includes construction of an upgraded four-lane elevated road and ground-level four-lane road between Talegaon and Chakan, as well as a six-lane stretch from Chakan to Shikrapur. The work will be executed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.

Initially part of the State Road Development Plan (2001–2021), the route was later upgraded to National Highway 548D by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. It was subsequently transferred from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC).

Currently, the highway is in poor condition due to heavy rainfall and structural damage, creating challenges such as traffic jams, frequent accidents, and road safety concerns. Being a key industrial corridor with heavy transport movement, the highway also serves as the main link to several adjoining routes. Local representatives had long been demanding its repair.

A review meeting with public representatives and officials was held in Pune on July 30, 2025, where urgent instructions were given to submit a proposal for repairs. Following administrative follow-up, the state government has now approved the necessary funding.

Minister Bhosale said the decision will not only improve road safety but also boost industrial connectivity, ensuring smoother transportation for goods and commuters alike.
