Pune’s Ira Subramanian, SNBP Student, Wins Bronze in Under-10 Category at South Asian Karate Championship
Pune – Ira Subramanian, a young karate talent from Pune, made India proud by clinching a bronze medal in the Under-10 Female Kumite -30 kg category at the South Asian Karate Championship 2025, held in Colombo on July 5th and 6th.
Representing India on an international stage, Ira fought fiercely in three intense matches against competitors from Sri Lanka and India to secure her place on the podium. Her performance also contributed to India’s runner-up finish in the overall medal tally at the prestigious event.
Ira’s road to the South Asian Championship was marked by determination and grit. She first battled through the state-level competition in Maharashtra, then emerged victorious with a gold medal at the 4th KIO National Karate Championship held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, in June 2025.
Her achievements were recently recognized by the Karate-do Association of Maharashtra (KAM) in a special felicitation ceremony honouring medal winners from the KIO Nationals and the South Asian Championship. KIO President Bharat Sharma, KAM President Salauddin Ansari, and KAM General Secretary Sandeep Gade praised Ira’s dedication and rewarded her with a champion’s trophy and cash prize.

Ira, a Grade 4 student at SNBP World School, Rahatani, began her karate journey at the age of six. She trains under coach Bhavinya Aiwale of SNBP Karate Champions. Her development has also been supported by coach Amit Kumar and Atthlete Inside, who have played a key role in building her physical agility and fitness.
With unwavering passion and relentless effort, Ira continues to inspire as a rising star in Indian karate.
