Whether it’s a short commute or an overnight journey, entertainment has become an essential companion for most travelers. From binge-watching shows to catching up on the latest movies, OTT platforms are part of everyday life — and now, Indian Railways is bringing that experience straight to your train seat. With the launch of the RailOne app, passengers can now enjoy free OTT content on their mobile devices, making journeys not only convenient but also more entertaining.

Launched on July 1, 2025, the RailOne app is a comprehensive platform built to serve the diverse needs of Indian train passengers. Designed with a clean, intuitive interface, it brings together essential services into one unified mobile application. From ticket bookings (both reserved and unreserved) to live train tracking, e-catering, porter booking, and even last-mile taxi services, RailOne simplifies every step of your railway journey.

What truly sets it apart, however, is the integration of free entertainment — something most passengers can appreciate, especially during long travel hours. The entertainment feature comes through a partnership with the WAVES OTT platform, a digital content initiative launched by Prasar Bharati in November 2024. WAVES offers a diverse selection of content in over 10 Indian languages, catering to audiences across different regions and age groups.

From movies and web series to documentaries, audio shows, and even interactive games, WAVES has something for everyone. What makes this platform special is its focus on linguistic and cultural diversity, collaborating with regional broadcasters, independent creators, and cultural institutions to bring rich, locally relevant content to the masses.

How to Access Free OTT Content on RailOne

Streaming entertainment on your train ride is easy and hassle-free. Here’s how you can get started:

• Download and open the RailOne app on your smartphone.

• Log in using your mPIN or biometric credentials.

• Navigate to the ‘More Offerings’ section.

• Tap on ‘Go To WAVES’.

• The WAVES portal will open, allowing you to stream movies, shows, and more — all for free.

Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the RailOne app is optimized to be lightweight and efficient, eliminating the need to install multiple railway-related apps. It even supports login via existing RailConnect and UTS credentials, making onboarding quick for frequent travelers.

Though ticket bookings are still possible via the IRCTC app, RailOne has been officially authorized by IRCTC as well, much like other verified commercial apps. This ensures secure ticketing and trusted services within a unified app environment.
