Indian Railways fare revision 2025 | Passenger train fare hike details

In an important update for train travellers, the Ministry of Railways has announced revised fares for passenger train services, effective from July 1, 2025. The changes are aimed at streamlining fare structures and improving financial sustainability.

Key Details of New Railway Fare Structure:

No increase in fare for journeys up to 500 km in ordinary class.
For journeys 501 to 1500 km, fares will go up by Rs.5.
 For 1501 to 2500 km, fares will increase by Rs.10.
For distances between 2501 to 3000 km, there will be an increase of Rs.15.

These revised fares apply mainly to ordinary non-AC classes in non-suburban trains.

Other fare changes include:

🔹 Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC):

  • Second Class, Sleeper Class, First Class: Increased by 1 paisa per kilometre.

🔹 AC Classes (Mail/Express):

  • AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier, AC 2-Tier, AC First/Executive Classes: Increased by 2 paisa per kilometre.

No change in:

  • Suburban single journey fares and season tickets
  • Reservation charges, superfast surcharges, and other fees

The fare revision will also apply to premium trains such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Gatimaan, Jan Shatabdi, and others, as per class-wise structure.

Implementation:

New fares will be applicable to tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025. Tickets issued before this date will remain valid at existing rates. Railways is updating PRS, UTS, and manual ticketing systems to reflect the changes, and instructions have been sent to all Zonal Railways for smooth implementation.
