Taking a firm stand against the Maharashtra government’s decision to make Hindi a compulsory third language in Grades 1 to 3, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray has announced a massive protest rally on July 6. He urged all political parties across Maharashtra to support the protest and revealed plans to meet with Shiv Sena (UBT) Chief Uddhav Thackeray on the issue.

After a meeting with State Education Minister Dada Bhuse, Raj Thackeray told the media that the MNS outright rejects the state’s decision. “As per the National Education Policy (NEP), the decision to include optional languages comes after Grade 5 and is left to the states. Then why is Maharashtra moving forward with this policy when no other state is doing so?” he asked.

Thackeray warned that the current policy would indirectly impose Hindi on young students, despite earlier opposition. “CBSE schools, mostly catering to IAS officers’ children, are already promoting Hindi. Why is our state following the same route?” he questioned.

He called upon all parties to unite in resisting this decision. “There will be no forced Hindi or any other language. I appeal to all political parties to stand with us in this fight,” he said.

The rally will begin at 10 a.m. on July 6, starting from Girgaon and culminating at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. Thackeray emphasized that this would be a non-political rally, focused solely on protecting the Marathi language and identity.

Calling the state’s move a conspiracy to dilute Maharashtra’s linguistic and cultural identity, Raj Thackeray pledged to speak with more parties and build collective resistance in the coming days.
