Blocked roads couldn’t stop them, four B.Ed students displayed remarkable determination to save their academic year.

In an extraordinary display of commitment to education, four B.Ed students from Rajasthan overcame formidable odds to reach their exam centre in Munsiyari, Uttarakhand. Torrential rains and landslides had rendered all major routes, including Haldwani–Pithoragarh and Tanakpur–Pithoragarh, impassable. With no taxi driver willing to undertake the 280 km road journey, the students faced the grim prospect of missing their crucial exam, a setback that would have cost them an entire academic year.

Refusing to surrender, the group made a daring decision: they hired a helicopter. Each student—Umram Jat, Magaram Jat, Prakash Godara Jat, and Lucky Choudhary spent Rs 10,400 to book the service through Heritage Aviation. The aerial journey, which took only 25–30 minutes compared to nearly 10 hours by road, ensured they arrived on time at the Government Degree College, Munsiyari, for their examination.

Speaking about the experience, Umram Jat shared that the group was initially disheartened, believing their chances of appearing for the exam had vanished. “It felt like an entire year was slipping away. Then we heard about the helicopter service and decided to take the chance,” he said.

For Lucky Choudhary, the expense was secondary to the relief of being able to write the exam. “Yes, it was costly, but the satisfaction of not losing a year outweighs everything,” he reflected.
