Rapido, the popular ride-hailing and bike taxi service, has officially stepped into the food delivery space with the launch of its all-new mobile app, Ownly. Targeting affordability and transparency, Ownly is now live in select Bengaluru neighbourhoods—Koramangala, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout—aiming to provide customers with meals at lower prices and restaurants with a commission-free experience.

The launch of Ownly marks a strategic move for Rapido as it takes on well-established food delivery players like Swiggy and Zomato. However, unlike these giants, Rapido’s food delivery service is structured on a zero-commission model, offering a fresh alternative for eateries tired of paying commissions that can go as high as 30% per order. Instead of charging a cut from restaurants, Rapido has set a fixed delivery fee system, with restaurants covering this fee for orders within a 4-kilometre delivery radius.

The pricing model, designed to maintain affordability for customers while reducing the financial burden on restaurants, includes the following: for orders under ₹100, the delivery fee is ₹10, but customers will be charged ₹20. For orders priced between ₹100 and ₹400, delivery will cost ₹25, plus a flat GST. Any order exceeding ₹400 will incur a ₹50 delivery charge. These details are part of the terms reviewed in partnership with the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), which has been working closely with Rapido to establish a fair system for restaurant partners.

Restaurants also stand to benefit by offering their dishes at offline prices, a feature highlighted by Ownly as part of its promise of “no hidden fees”. The app, currently available on the Google Play Store for Android users, has already onboarded popular food brands such as Eatfit, Wow! Momo, Faasos, and Krispy Kreme. With most menu items priced under ₹150, the platform caters strongly to value-conscious customers looking for affordable and accessible dining options.

Rapido has been quietly testing Ownly internally with employees over the past few weeks before its official launch. The company will leverage its vast network of two-wheeler riders—called “captains”—to handle food deliveries, a move that ensures quick scale-up and cost-effective logistics. As of May 2025, Rapido had around 2 million captains and announced its plans to expand operations to 500 cities by the end of the year.

In a recent conversation, Rapido’s co-founder Aravind Sanka shared the company’s broader philosophy, saying, “Whatever category we explore, we aim to return value to the users. It’s not just about filling a market gap—it’s about ensuring value truly reaches where it should.”

Founded in 2015, Rapido has evolved from a bike taxi startup into a multi-service mobility platform, adding autos, cabs, and parcel delivery to its portfolio. With Ownly, Rapido is now making its boldest leap yet into a highly competitive sector, but one that still has room for disruption—especially when both consumers and restaurants are actively seeking alternatives.
