RCB Victory Parade Turns Tragic: 11 Dead, Several Injured in Stampede Outside Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy Stadium
At least 11 people lost their lives and over 15 were injured in a stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium during RCB’s IPL 2025 victory celebrations in Bengaluru. BJP blames Karnataka government for negligence.
Bengaluru, June 4, 2025: A celebratory evening turned tragic in Bengaluru on Wednesday as a massive crowd gathered outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory parade, resulting in a deadly stampede. According to reports, at least 11 people died, and over 15 sustained injuries, with three in critical condition. The injured were rushed to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and Vaidehi Hospital, where seven and four victims respectively succumbed to their injuries.
The incident occurred at gate numbers 3, 10, and 21 of the stadium, where uncontrollable crowds led to a stampede-like situation. Thousands of RCB fans had gathered hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite players, including Virat Kohli, following the team’s historic IPL win after 18 years.
Earlier in the day, Karnataka Home Minister Parameshwara Rao had announced that there would be no official celebration. However, confusion ensued when crowds still assembled, and Bengaluru Traffic Police issued conflicting updates regarding the parade.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is expected to visit the victims, while Deputy CM DK Shivakumar expressed grief on social media, urging fans to value life over celebration. “My condolences to the bereaved families. Let pride not be bigger than life,” he said.
Meanwhile, the BJP has blamed the Congress-led Karnataka government for “criminal negligence.” Party leaders including BY Vijayendra, Amit Malviya, Pralhad Joshi, and Tejasvi Surya have called for a judicial probe and accused the government of poor planning and crowd mismanagement.
In the aftermath, three metro stations — Cubbon Park, Vidhana Soudha, and MG Road — within a 5 km radius of the stadium, have been temporarily shut.
This tragic event has overshadowed what should have been a historic celebration of RCB’s maiden IPL title.
