In a welcome move for travelers, the Pune airport is set to open its first low-cost food outlet at the new terminal by the end of this month. The outlet aims to provide affordable food and beverage options to passengers, who have long been complaining about the exorbitant prices at the airport.

According to Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke, passengers will be able to buy a 500ml bottle of water for just Rs 20, a significant reduction from the Rs 200 or more charged by other airport outlets. Tea and coffee will be available for Rs 30 to Rs 40, while snacks like vada pav or patties will be priced between Rs 40 to Rs 50.

The move is expected to bring relief to travelers who have been complaining about the high prices at the airport’s food and beverage stalls. Currently, the airport has over 10 F&B stalls, but all of them are pricey, with a cup of tea costing nothing less than Rs 250 and a patty or sandwich priced between Rs 300 to Rs 350.

Travelers have welcomed the move, saying it will make air travel more accessible and affordable for people from all backgrounds. “If the government is claiming that all people from every background and economic status will be able to use flights, then facilities at airports should be the same,” said, a student who recently traveled to Delhi for work.

Another traveler, who flew to Kolkata with his family a few months ago, recalled being shocked by the high prices at the airport’s food stalls. “We got hungry and bought tea and sandwiches. The bill came to Rs 1,200. Such bills come at fancy restaurants. The low-cost food stall is a big relief and welcome,” he said.
